Should I Seek Medical Help For Tantrums?
Keep in mind that tantrums are common in young children (approximately 80% of children ages one to four have them). However, you may wish to seek medical advice if any of the following points apply to your situation:
· Your child has frequent tantrums that last for more than 15 minutes.
· Your child has multiple tantrums on a daily basis (i.e. three or more temper tantrums per day). This may be an indication that the environment is extremely stressful and/or that your child is experiencing a great deal of anger or frustration on a daily basis.
· Your child has frequent aggressive tantrums during which he or she attempts to break things and/or hurt himself or others.
· You are concerned that you cannot cope with your child’s tantrums and/or you are concerned that you may lose control and harm your child.
· Your child continues to have frequent tantrums after the age of four.
